Redefining Predictive Maintenance: Part One - How BEYONDx will leverage Quantum AI for eVTOL Operations and MRO’s
The future of aviation is here, and it’s electric, vertical, and powered by cutting-edge predictive maintenance technologies. Electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft represent a transformative leap in urban air mobility (UAM), promising safer, cleaner, and more efficient transport. However, these innovations come with unique challenges, particularly in maintenance operations, where traditional approaches fall short in addressing the intricacies of eVTOL systems.
To address this need, BEYONDx Advisors is offering commercialization services and soon data services, empowered by 3rd party Quantum-Driven AI Solutions for Real-World Maintenance. Data services will include a Predictive Maintenance-as-a-Service (PMaaS) platform that leverages Quantum Artificial Intelligence (Quantum AI) and real-time data ingestion. By bolting on to Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) systems through an Open API, BEYONDx will localize just-in-time predictive insights that’ll empower operators to maximize efficiency, safety, and reliability. Importantly, this platform will be localized for each client, conforming to their desired outcomes and operational requirements. Also, the platform is intended to satisfy the regulatory guidance for a “Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Programs (CAMP) and/or Continuous Analysis and Surveillance Systems (CASS)”; which are an integral part of the Part 121 SMS and Part 135 AIPP overall Safety Management System (SMS).
Capturing Real-Time Data from eVTOL Aircraft
BEYONDx’s PdMaaS advisory and data services will be able to capture, process, and analyze vast amounts of real-time operational data from eVTOL, AAM and other Part 23 or Part 25 aircraft. Regarding eVTOL systems, their electric propulsion units, advanced avionics, and high-density batteries, demands a meticulously designed data capture framework to ensure reliability and safety. BEYONDx’s approach to data acquisition for these aircraft are both comprehensive and innovative, bridging state-of-the-art 3rd party hardware with intelligent software, to capture data from the following:
Comprehensive Data Sources
Telemetry Systems - A network of advanced sensors that are continuously monitoring key performance metrics such as temperature, vibrations, battery charge cycles, and electric motor efficiency. These metrics are critical in identifying wear trends and predicting component failures.
Flight Operations Logs - Detailed flight data, including take-off stresses, cruising altitudes, and environmental conditions, will be captured during each mission. This data is essential for understanding operational stressors and their long-term impact on the aircraft.
IoT-Enabled Subsystems - Embedded IoT devices within propulsion units and avionics provide subsystem-specific insights. These devices will detect anomalies like overcurrent in motors or voltage drops in batteries, allowing for granular diagnostic capabilities.
Data Transmission Methods
BEYONDx believes in the hybrid approach concept to data transmission, utilizing 5G networks for urban operations and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for remote or rural environments. This dual-channel approach ensures uninterrupted data flow to ground servers, even in challenging operational zones.
To minimize transmission latency and enhance reliability, onboard edge computing units preprocess raw data before transmission. These units filter noise, prioritize critical telemetry, and ensure that only actionable insights are transmitted to the cloud.
Data Standardization and Regulatory Compliance
Once ingested, all data is standardized to conform to regulatory mandated CASS and CAMP guidance; ensuring compatibility with MRO systems and regulatory requirements. BEYONDx will integrate data validation layers for their clients to verify completeness and accuracy, safeguarding against data corruption during the transmission.
Data Storage and Accessibility
BEYONDx will employ a secure, scalable cloud infrastructure to realize operational data for its clients. The localized platform will support tiered access controls, allowing operators, technicians, and regulatory bodies to access the insights they need while maintaining stringent security. Historical data will be indexed for rapid retrieval, enabling trend analysis, compliance audits, and detailed post-incident reviews.
“Through this robust Quantum-AI empowered data capture framework, BEYONDx Advisors will be able to ensure that most aspects of a CASS / CAMP SMS is meticulously monitored; enabling predictive maintenance and just-in-time strategies to realize long-term fleet optimization.” said Jay Shears CEO of BEYONDx Advisors
